In the vibrant cultural mosaic of Southwest Florida, Dr. Mario Jacome plays a crucial role in Hispanic healthcare. This physician, born in Miami and raised in Davie, Florida, with Ecuadorian roots, forged his path at Lee Health, where he is completing his residency in Family Medicine. His story reflects the importance of integrating culture and language into healthcare.
From an early age, Dr. Jacome showed a medical inclination, motivated by being his family's voice when translating for them during medical consultations. "I want to make sure my patients understand every detail of their health," he shares. This commitment to effective communication and cultural understanding is a cornerstone of his approach.
Graduating with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2024, he is currently a second-year resident (PGY-2) in the Family Medicine program at Florida State University College of Medicine in partnership with Lee Health, where he will complete his training in 2027.

Family medicine allows her to treat people of all ages, building lasting relationships. "By treating the entire family, we can prevent chronic diseases and encourage healthy habits from an early age," she says. She emphasizes the power of preventive medicine as a protective shield, highlighting the importance of regular doctor visits, vaccinations, and annual checkups, especially in communities with a high prevalence of diseases like diabetes and hypertension. Her mission is to educate and empower her patients to take control of their health.
Building trust with her Latino patients is crucial. "Speaking the same language and understanding the culture is vital to providing effective health recommendations," she explains. This cultural connection facilitates communication and ensures that the recommendations are practical.
For Dr. Jacome, challenges are opportunities. The greatest reward of his work is seeing his patients thrive and adopt a healthy lifestyle. "It's a privilege to be part of their lives and see the positive impact of preventive healthcare," he says proudly.
At Lee Health, Dr. Jacome is more than just a doctor and a source of Hispanic pride; he's a community advocate, a bridge between culture and healthcare. With a holistic approach and a focus on wellness, he makes a difference in the lives of his patients. Appointments are held at the FSU clinic at Lee Health, where he is part of a team of bilingual physicians.
